How to Download Instagram Reels (iPhone, Android & PC)

Updated July 2026 · KeepClip

Instagram has no real download button. Its "Save" option only bookmarks a post inside the app — if the creator deletes it, or you lose access to your account, the content is gone. There is no way to get an actual video file out of Instagram natively.

To get the real MP4, you need to pull it from the public link. Here is how, on any device, without ever entering your Instagram password.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Copy the Reel link

Open the Reel or post, tap the three dots (⋯) or the Share icon, then tap "Copy link".

  2. 2

Go to keepclip.live/instagram-video-downloader in any browser.

  3. 3

    Paste and fetch

Paste the link into the box and press Download to pull the available files.

  4. 4

    Pick and save

Choose your quality (or a photo, for image posts) and the file saves to your device.

Never enter your Instagram password on a downloader

This is the single most important safety rule. A legitimate downloader only ever needs the public link to a post — it never needs your login. Any site that asks you to sign in with your Instagram username and password is attempting to steal your account, and account theft through fake "downloader" sites is extremely common.

If you are ever asked for Instagram credentials on a third-party site, close the tab immediately.

What you can and cannot download

  • Public Reels, video posts, photos and carousels — yes, these all work.
  • Every image in a multi-photo carousel — yes, each appears as a separate option.
  • Private accounts — no. If an account is private, no tool can access it, and any site claiming otherwise is lying.
  • Stories from private accounts — no, for the same reason.

Common reasons people save Reels

  • Backing up your own Reels before archiving or deleting them from your profile.
  • Repurposing your own content for TikTok or YouTube Shorts.
  • Saving collaborations you appear in, with the other creator's permission.
  • Keeping reference material or inspiration available offline.

Respect the creator

Downloading your own posts is completely fine. For anyone else's work, ask permission and credit them clearly if you share it. Re-uploading another creator's Reel as your own content is copyright infringement and breaks Instagram's terms.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to log in to Instagram?+

No — and you never should. Only the public post link is needed. Any downloader asking for your password is trying to steal your account.

Can I download from a private account?+

No. Private content is not accessible to any downloader. Sites claiming otherwise are scams.

Can I save photos and carousels?+

Yes. Paste a post link and each photo in the carousel appears as its own download option.

Does the creator get notified?+

No. Instagram does not notify anyone when a public post is viewed or saved.

Does it work on iPhone?+

Yes. On iPhone the file saves to the Files app — open Files → Downloads, tap the video, then Share → Save Video to move it into Photos.
